Discovery Drop-In & Storytime is a weekly morning program featuring outdoor stories and self-guided nature activities for young children at Sarah P. Duke Gardens. Held in the Charlotte Brody Discovery Garden, the event offers two separate story readings at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., with hands-on activity stations set up on the nearby picnic tables for children to explore before or after the books. This program is best suited for toddlers and preschoolers. While admission to the event is entirely free, you will need to pay for parking at the Duke Gardens metered lots, which accept card payments. No pre-registration is required, making this an easy option to keep in your back pocket for mornings when you need to get the kids out of the house on a whim. Restrooms are located nearby at the Doris Duke Center. It is an excellent weekday outing because it combines structured reading times with open-ended outdoor play. You can easily pair the program with a walk through the historic terraced gardens or a picnic on the lawn, making it a full morning of fresh air and gentle learning.
