Food Hall 500 E Davie Street, Raleigh, NC Free (Follow above link to register) South Wake Conservationists will meet on the patio of the Transfer Co Food Hall in Raleigh, a recently-noted local roosting site, to witness the spectacle of migratory Chimney Swifts turning in for the night. These birds begin their roosting ritual after sunset. Learn all about these unique birds as you wait for them to gather around the chimney and begin their ritual aerodynamics before swooping into the chimney en masse for the night. Chimney swifts once nested in hollow trees, but today they nearly always nest in chimneys or other structures. At dusk, they will swarm around the structure they intend to roost in for the night, and then, in the blink of an eye, they fall into a funnel formation and literally pour into the top of the structure to get settled within for the night.
