Once a month, tweens and teens take over the MakerLab for LEGO chaos. Wild themes. Weird prompts. Timed builds. Robot races. You bring the creativity, we bring the bricks. Win the monthly challenge, wow the judges, and you could win a full LEGO set! Build big. Build weird. Build to win. We will meet on the last Monday of every month, starting at 5PM on the 1st floor Makerlab. This program was made possible through a generous donation from the Friends of Durham Library.

Bricks & Beyond: A Lego Challenge Club is a monthly competitive building event for older kids held in the library MakerLab. Participants face off in timed challenges, build to unusual prompts, and race robots using the library's massive collection of bricks. The top builder of the night walks away with a brand-new Lego set. This program is designed specifically for tweens and teens, filling a gap for older kids who have outgrown standard library storytimes. It meets on the first floor of the Main Library on the last Monday of the month from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. There is no cost to attend, and all building materials are provided by the Friends of the Durham Library. The downtown branch offers free parking in the attached deck for library visitors. It is a smart weekday evening option to keep your middle schooler entertained and creative after school without spending a dime.
