In this 7 week class, students will have a chance to try the wheel and learn the basics of hand-building with clay by pinching, coil building, and slab building. The first half of the session will be focused on making items and the remaining weeks will be spent glazing and finishing projects. Open studio hours the following day, Thursdays 5-7pm are included to provide students with more time to finish projects. All materials provided.
Beginning Pottery is a seven-week art course at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre where participants learn to pinch, coil, slab build, and use the pottery wheel. Students spend the first half of the course creating their clay pieces and the final weeks glazing and firing their work. This class is designed for teenagers and adults ages 16 and older, making it a great creative outlet for high schoolers or a parent-child activity. The program runs on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and registration includes access to open studio hours on Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM to finish projects. All clay, glazes, and tools are provided in the tuition cost, and free parking is available in the dedicated lot at the Renaissance Centre. Learning a new craft together offers a structured way to spend quality time with your teenager during the busy school year. The inclusion of Thursday open studio hours provides flexible extra time to practice skills without feeling rushed during the main class session.
