Johnston County is commemorating America's 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence at several events in 2026, including walking tours, a historical marker unveiling, a mural dedication, bus tours and more. On June 27, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Johnston County is hosting America 250 Fair on the campus of Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield, North Carolina. This is a FREE event and everyone's welcome. The festival includes: A living history encampment by Camp Flintlock, including a parade and cannon firing Art and history displays presented by the Johnston County Arts Council and the Johnston County Heritage Center Puppet show hosted by the Woman’s Club of Clayton Carriage rides Food and craft vendors A juried Art and Photography exhibition Information booths from local organizations You can find a map of America 250 Fair here.
