The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) , a not-for-profit organization founded in 1953, is the leading patient organization for people with asthma and allergies, and the oldest asthma and allergy patient group in the world. The Allies Fun Run and Walk is a national series of community events that raise awareness and connect families to resources and support for managing asthma and allergies, including food allergies. This September, the event is coming to North Carolina. The timing of this event is especially meaningful. September is the start of asthma peak season because it's the time of year when a surge of seasonal triggers lead to more asthma attacks, emergency room visits, and hospital stays, especially among young children. It's a powerful reminder of why community support matters so much and why we're holding this event when it matters most. More than 106 million people in the U.S. live with asthma and/or allergies. For many a walk outside, a day at school, or a good night's sleep isn't something they can take for granted. How well someone manages these conditions depends on more than medication. It depends on the air they breathe, the places they spend time, and the people around them. You can make a difference by supporting the AAFA Allies Fun Run & Walk.
